Despite growing enrollments over the past five years, more than 50% of Afghan children are still not in school, reports the international relief group Oxfam. Poverty, high school fees and long distances keep many children out of the classroom, and those fortunate enough to be in school typically encounter untrained teachers, poor facilities and poor textbooks.
